Local Ruckus Partners with Sprint; Adds New Talent

Local Ruckus - Do The Local Thing

Local Ruckus, one of the founding #KCSV start-ups, added a new, major customer and partner this week in telecom giant Sprint.

They will be working with Sprint’s Pinsight Media+, whose young team is primarily focused on mobile advertising, by leveraging their API to provide local event content for the Kansas City Metro area Sprint subscribers. Local Ruckus met with both Sprint and Pinsight Media+ back in March at South by Southwest, and kept the communication door open. They hope to expand outside the Kansas City market by Spring 2014.

“We are excited to be working with Sprint to provide their customers with awesome event content,” Local Ruckus CEO Adam Arredondo, said. “In return, the partnership will provide Local Ruckus with the opportunity to expand our platform coverage into other national markets.”

The partnership and added revenue between the two has also allowed Local Ruckus the opportunity to expand their tech talent in its development team.

The new team consists of:
● Matt Miquelon, a Senior UI/UX Developer with more than 15 years of experience with VML, Barkley, LiveOn, EngageMobile and Universal Uclick. He is also a co-founder of UpFront, a Kansas City front-end user group.
● Adam England, a Software Architect with more than 10 years of experience with Sporting Innovati0ns, Perceptive Software, CARFAX and LiveOn.

The new team will build the next version of the Local Ruckus platform, positioning the company as the event promotion hub for local business. According to the press release, they intend to be the “Associated Press of local events” for media outlets nationally.

“It’s another example of Sprint taking advantage of innovation in their back yard,” Arredondo told the Silicon Prairie News.

Outside of the Sprint deal, Local Ruckus has secured additional funding from a variety of regional sources that include Digital Sandbox, Workforce Partnership, and Kansas Angel Tax Credit.
